I n t e r l u d e

Looking through old archives, I say 'old', maybe 'young' holds more weight. I took these photographs from 2017-2019, my first two years at living in CBD Pretoria, RZA. At the time I struggled to navigate the context around the imagery; what could I possibly say when I knew very little about the value of shared perception as my own perception was flawed by naivety and ego, and possibly still is.

Instead of leaving these images in a shoe box where they've been since print, going on 5 years. I am revisiting each work, not necessarily why I took the image but what I can isolate from it. In my year at Arts University Plymouth I touched on the power colour holds in relation to memory, the familiar and home, which I may have been too stubborn to value as an aspect that held any deeper and significant prevalence. This body of work is centered in the questioning of why those images, colours, and moments mean more to me now than they did 4-5 years ago
